 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

Part 1: Look at your research for this the conventions. Did you follow these conventions and norms, or did you do something different?
Doing the research for the gum, we deviated alot from our orginal storyboard. Due to occurances of certain events and unfortunate circumstances, we had to change alot of our plans to even make this commerical feasible. While gum seemed to be an easy commerical, one of our classmates had a hard time showing up, along with bad weather and, in public spaces, audio disruption, we ended up rerecording in a whole different area to make the commerical seem more professional. In the end, there was alot of differences from the storyboard simply from lack of time and bad luck. We did make the through and lots of props were cut out but it was accomplished in time. End results wasn't even that bad.

Part 2: Who is your project geared towards? What type of audience are you trying to attract?
Out project was supposed to be geared towards the general population and no sophisticated to the point where our audience don't even know what we are talking about. Since gum has no limits to who it can provide itself to, it is advertised to anyone. Specifically speaking, it is geared towards teens and young adults who find gum appealing in the first place and not people who grew out of it. Overall we captured it pretty well as we are teens ourselves and teens attracts teens best. But there is no limit to who we are trying to attract, anyone interested is enough though we do think that teens will sell best if advertised to them

How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Part 1: How does your project get the audiences’ attention? What will make people stay to watch the project? What will make people say WOW?
Most engaging part of the commerical is in the end with the Mentos logo and a voice saying that along with the motto "Stay fresh". But when they first start watching the ad, we didn't really think of a hook to engage the audience but if they keep watching, it eventually gets a little better. We started off with a scenario where people would usually see when they think of gum where you share it with friends. Also the addition of teens in the commerical will attract the same audience. Though for this project, we didn't really get into it that much and initial first 5 seconds are the most important, so next time we will definitely work on that. There wasn't much WOW to the project, maybe the scenes of the feeling you get from eating the gum will bring surprise but the WOW mainly comes from the commerical's sudden MENTOS at the end.

Part 2: How would you get it out to your audience? How will it be produced, distributed and marketed?
For local friends and people, word to mouth should be enough. Production of Mentos probably go with tree sap and some sugar but flavoring is alot more complicated. When it comes to distribution, Ad's nowadays don't really gain much traction without some sort of big famous person in it. For the platform though, I do feel like Youtube is probably the best platform to do so. Marketting can't really be accomplished full blown because we don't have much to work with though some youtube videos with some challenges that may gain traction should be enough to market the Ad. Thats the rough layout though. If we have more in our deposit there will be more options and probably better ways to do these 3 things.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
From film making so far, I will always stick to saying that I myself isn't fit to be inside of a commerical itself. I am simply just not fit for it and I dont think I ever will. The basic of film making is not suprising however, its painful and you need to restart alot to get the perfect shot. Overall I didn't really learn anything other than just get reminded how painful film making is with such bad equipment. It took us an hour to get a snow effect because all the good effects are locked behind some sort of premium feature and editing is so slow with such a bad pc. I do like recording and editing to an extent because I've had previous experience but unless I actually enjoy recording what I am recording, then film making won't be as much fun as being a Youtuber. If I do film, anything besides the actors I would be happy doing. In a way makes be appriciate tripods more.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
The technology part of the commercial is as basic as it can get. There was no microphone, none of us had any so we just used the phone microphone. Speaking of the phone, that was the camera through the film. An I phone 6 and a samsung. And that is all the technology we used for the scenes. When it comes to online and the editing, we used two different editing software and two different devices. I used the free clipchamp on office 365 on my chromebook and Tyree on his phone using capcut. Used two because each editing software has its benefits and defects though most of everything was done on climpchamp. Every software and technology we used, we already knew how to use beforehand to save as much time as possible. But in total, that is all we used for this commerical.
